To Report Child Abuse
The Denton County Criminal District Attorney's Office has a deep commitment to the
protection of the most vulnerable and helpless of our citizens. Physical and sexual abuse
of children cuts across all strata of our society, and affects us all. We believe that
child abuse is more than simply another criminal justice issue. The complexity of the
cases and the overriding need to consider the welfare of the child first makes dealing
with these cases a specialized job which requires diligence, patience and talent. As a
result, the Child Abuse Prosecution Unit was established.
This grant-funded unit, consisting of a
prosecutor and an investigator, deals only with child abuse cases. It is presently staffed
by Assistant District Attorneys
Kim Laseter and
District Attorney Investigator Jack Grassman,
and is part of the multi-disciplinary team dedicated to the prevention, detection,
investigation, prosecution and treatment of child abuse. They can be contacted at (972)
317-2818 or by Fax: (972) 317-6989.
Recognizing the need for a united effort in
combating child abuse in Denton County, the District Attorney's Office formed the Denton
County Children's Advocacy Task Force in 1994. This task force was comprised of the
Child Abuse Prosecution Unit from the DA's office and representatives from Child
Protective Services, law enforcement, professionals in abuse-related fields, and community
