John B. Denton

 

Rev. John B. Denton, Jr.

John B. Denton, Jr. was the youngest child of John B. and Mary Greenlee Denton.  He was born on March 16, 1840 in Red River County, Texas.  His first wife was possibly Martha Jackson whom he married on February 21, 1866 in Lamar County, Texas.  They had two children: Ashley F. and Gracy.  John was listed as a widower in the 1880 census.  He married Nannie Cone in May 1889 in Llano County, Texas.  They had two sons, Willie M. and Earnest and a daughter Virgie.  John B. Denton, Jr. was a Methodist minister like his father and older brother and spoke at his father’s 1901 funeral.  He served in Tom Green’s Brigade of the Confederate Army during the Civil War.  John B. Denton, Jr. died on February 12, 1912 in Tarrant County, Texas.
