Scott Armey
Denton County Judge
Scott
Armey was elected Denton County Judge in November of 2000, after holding the job
of Denton County Commissioner of Precinct 3 since 1992. Scott’s primary
objective as County Judge has been to
improve mobility in the region. Judge Armey has been a champion for the Denton
County Transportation Authority, which was passed in the 77th
Legislature. The authority, if approved by the voters of Denton County, could
help relieve the transportation congestion in Denton County.
As
County Judge, he has continually recognized
the importance of communication. Judge Armey has initiated quarterly
meetings with all 43 mayors in Denton County to help improve communication.
Scott has also started quarterly night Commissioner Court meetings to give
citizens better access to their elected officials. In an effort to further
increase the level of communication countywide, Scott has created a database
online to publicize parole hearing notices.
One of
Scott's objectives has been stimulating economic development, attracting new
business to Denton County, and
expanding the county's commercial tax base. Since 1993, the County's tax base
has more than doubled, growing from $12 Billion to over $27 Billion.
Recognizing the critical importance of sound
infrastructure, Scott has dedicated a great deal of his time to many Denton
County road projects. By taking a leadership role on the development of
critical roads such as Interstate 35, FM 2499, FM 3040, and FM 407, US Highway
380, and State Highway 114, Scott is helping to pave the way for better access
and safer roads for Denton County residents.
Scott has also led the County's efforts to
address several other key issues facing Denton County. Since 1992, Scott has
promised to work to keep taxes low, cut wasteful spending, and renew the
County's effort to reduce crime. Scott has delivered on all of these promises.
