Be it remembered, Commissioners Court of Denton County, Texas was called to order on the 2nd day of August, 2005, at 9:00 a.m. in Commissioners Courtroom, 2nd Floor, Courthouse on the Square, Denton, Texas by Denton County Judge Mary Horn. Commissioners Cynthia White, Sandy Jacobs, Jim Carter and Bobbie Mitchell were present, along with County Clerk Cynthia Mitchell’s representative, Senior Administrator to Commissioners Court, Erin McCorkle.

Court opened with an Invocation by Jim Carter, Denton County Commissioner, Precinct 4, followed by the Pledges of Allegiance to the American and Texas Flags led by Roger Cortez, Assistant Veterans Service Officer.

Comm. Carter: Father, we're thankful for the life of Vivian Cochburn and what she did for her community. We're thankful, also, for living in a country that allows us to have free expression and free government. We're thankful for the leaders of our country and for the people in this county and the leaders of this county. We need to remember that always that You instituted government. You instituted government to allow us to live in a land of free, and to govern ourselves as best we can.

Father, let us always remember that we are servants, servants to the residents of Denton County. We're thankful for the opportunity to live in a great country and a great state and in this wonderful place we call Denton County. Be with us today as we deliberate the business of this county. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.

Judge Richard Podgorski spoke on the appeal for equity adjustment for County Court Administrator from Grade 24 Step 2 to Step 6.

Dr. Bing Burton spoke on the budget appeal for an RN position in Public Health Clinical that was cut from the Recommended Budget.

John Looper spoke on the budget appeal for Death Investigations Medical Examiner – Senior Criminalist position that was cut from the recommended budget.

B-4) Take the funds requested for Senior Criminalist in the Medical Examiner’s Office ($51,925) and put them in a Non-department Contingency line item earmarked under the District Attorney’s Office, specifically for this drug issue. Commissioners Court can determine at a later date whether the funds will either be used for the drug testing or a Senior Criminalist or the best way to solve the problem.
