February 24, 2004

Be it remembered, Commissioners Court of Denton County, Texas was called to order on the 24th day of February, 2004, at 9:02 a.m. in the Denton County Pre-Trial Facility, 1406 Troy H. LaGrone Drive, Denton, Texas by County Judge Mary Horn. Commissioners Sandy Jacobs, Bobbie J. Mitchell, Jim Carter and Cynthia White were present along with County Clerk Cynthia Mitchell’s representative, Deputy Clerk Kathleen Bransford.

Court opened with an Invocation by Venessa Sims, Assistant to Director of Economic Development for Denton County, followed by the Pledges to the American and Texas Flag led by Willie Hudspeth, Citizen Activist for Restoration of the Confederate Monument drinking fountain.

Ms. Sims: Good morning. Oh, Lord, our God, thank You for this opportunity to pray. Thank You for your grace. Thank You for Your mercy. Lord, give the members of the Commissioners Court wisdom as they make decisions that impact the employees and the citizens of Denton County. Surround our elected officials right now with your presence. Usher in the spirit of peace, the spirit of love, the spirit of forgiveness and the spirit of cooperation in their hearts. Mend relationships that have been broken. Remove worry, guilt, fear, anxiety and doubt of those who are assembled here today. Give us strength to endure trials that we experience. Supply faith wherever it is needed. We pray for the leaders of our country, the leaders of our State, the leaders of our Cities, and the citizens of Denton County. We pray a special prayer for the safety of our military men and woman. We ask that You provide comfort, support and peace to their families. Oh, Lord, provide encouragement, healing, shelter, food, love and peace to those who are in need of Your grace. Assure them of Your love. We ask You this in the name of Jesus. Amen.
