Be it remembered, Commissioners Court of Denton County, Texas was called to order on the 7th day of January, 2003, at 9:00 AM in Commissioners Courtroom, 2nd Floor, Courthouse on the Square, Denton, Texas by Denton County Judge Mary Horn. Commissioners Sandy Jacobs, Jim Carter, Bobbie J. Mitchell and Cynthia White were present, along with County Clerk Cynthia Mitchell's representative, deputy clerk Kathleen Bransford.

Court opened with an Invocation by Pastor Jim Porter, First United Methodist Church of Denton, followed by the Pledges of Allegiance to the American and Texas Flags led by Mildred Hawk of Denton, Texas.

Pastor Porter: God of all creation, we pause at the beginning of this new year to give You thanks for leading us to this point. And Your promise to be with us always. We thank You for our heritage as a country, but especially in the midst of this Commissioners Court for our heritage as a County. The rich experiences of the past which come to bear on the decisions we make today. We're thankful for the present moment as well when we can make a difference in the lives of children and youth and women and men. And God, we're thankful for the future which is full of opportunities for us, and for the citizens of Denton County. We ask You to bless these who lead, our County Judge, our Commissioners, give them vision; give them wisdom in making decisions, and give them compassion which is felt in every home and every business, and every life in this County. In Thy name we pray, Amen.

ITEM 1 PUBLIC INPUT

Comm. White thanked the Road & Bridge Department for their work on their day off on Lois Road.  Beth Fleming, Director of Purchasing, announced that on Thursday, January 9th, Texas Woman's University would be hosting a workshop for minority contractors.
