Mitchell, Jim Carter, and Cynthia White were present, along with deputy clerk Kathleen Bransford, when the following proceedings were had, to wit:

Court opened with an Invocation by Pastor James E. Kelly of the Morse Street Baptist Church and was followed by the Pledges of Allegiance to the American and Texas Flag led by Tom Reedy, correspondent for the Denton Record Chronicle.

Pastor Kelly: Father, in Heaven, thank You for Your gift of salvation. Thank You for refusing to let us go no matter what. Teach us to follow You in trust and obedience, Lord. Thank You for Your promises to us. Please keep us safe from the attacks of Satan and help us be strong. Give us wisdom by the power of Your spirit and always teach us to pray as You taught Your disciples to pray. Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed by thy name. Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the Kingdom and the Power and the Glory forever. Amen.
