Court opened with an Invocation by Pastor Gary Muller of the First United Methodist Church, Denton, Texas, and was followed by the Pledges of Allegiance to the American Flag and the Texas Flag led by Beth Fleming, Denton County's Director of Purchasing.
Pastor Muller: Most gracious God, we begin this day, indeed, as we should begin everything we do, with thanks to You. Your gift of life is a wonderful thing. This day is filled with all kinds of possibilities and Your unconditional love helps us live as You dream for us to live. In particular, Lord, we are grateful for the privilege of living in this place called Denton County. It is a great place filled with outstanding people and unlimited opportunities and we are glad we are here. We are grateful for these servants who have committed themselves to work for the common good. We pray that You will bless them with Your gifts of vision, compassion, wisdom and a deep desire to be stewards of the life, prosperity and freedom You have given us. Bless the work that will occur at this place and this time so Your will for Your people will become a reality. In particular, we pray this morning that these leaders will be especially aware of and responsive to the needs of our brothers and sisters who most need help, especially when they are poor or children or elderly or sick or disable. We pray this with expectant and thankful and joyful hearts. Amen.
