June 20, 2000

Be it remembered that Commissioners Court of Denton County, Texas, met on this the 20th day of June, 2000, with Judge Kirk Wilson presiding. Commissioners Scott Armey, Jeff Krueger, Sandy Jacobs and Jim Carter were present, along with deputy clerk Kathleen Bransford, when the following proceedings were had, to wit:

Court opened with an Invocation by Terry Collins, Welch Street Church of Christ, Denton, Texas, and was followed by the Pledges of Allegiance to the American Flag and the Texas Flag led by Mayor Olive Stephens, Shady Shores, Texas.

Mr. Collins: Our Heavenly Father, Creator and God, we thank You so much for the freedoms and privileges that we enjoy in America and Texas and in Denton County. We ask Your blessings today upon this court, the Judge, the Commissioners and all who work in our county government. We are thankful, Father, for a place of peace and prosperity. We pray that You will give this court the wisdom to do those things best for our county. We pray that it will always be a good place to work and to live and to worship. We pray, Father, for their health and for their stamina through the years. We ask, Father, today a special blessing upon Patty Larson who is undergoing surgery, for success, for good recovery and for continued good health. Bless us all, Father, as we try to do things that are best for this world, in Jesus name, Amen.

ITEM 2 PUBLIC INPUT

Comm. Carter commented on the recent ruling by the Supreme Court regarding prayer at school sporting events.
Captain Powell announced that the Sheriff's wife was taken to the hospital during the night and is in stable condition.
Sandy Thurman, for Pedi-Place, Alma Maynard, for Christian Community Action, Darcea Handy, from the Denton County Health Department and Fran Moore, from the Denton Family Resource Center, representing the Denton County CHIP (Children's Health Insurance Program) Coalition to present a resolution recognizing July 16 as CHIP Roll-out Day in Denton County. Also presented was a TexCare Partnership County Challenge.

Sheriff Lucas requested a committee be set-up for further study of this item in order to develop a policy for county-wide use of payroll deduction.

Move to approve an amendment to the motion that this request be reviewed by the Human Service Organization committee by Comm. Jacobs. Motion failed for lack of a second.

Move to postpone this action until next Tuesday when the service agreement will be on the Formal Agenda by Comm. Carter, second by Comm. Jacobs.
