February 15, 2000

Be it remembered that Commissioners Court of Denton County, Texas, met on this the 15th day of February, 2000, with Judge Kirk Wilson presiding. Commissioners Jeff Krueger, Scott Armey, Jim Carter and Sandy Jacobs, were present along with deputy clerk Kathleen Bransford when the following proceedings were had, to wit:

Court opened with an Invocation by Pastor George Butterfield of the Singing Oaks Church of Christ in Denton and was followed by the Pledges of Allegiance to the American Flag and the Texas Flag led by Lari Irby, Administrative Assistant for the County Judge's office.

Pastor Butterfield: Dear God, Father, You have given us such a wonderful day, a wonderful time to be alive. I pray You will be with each person assembled here. Open our eyes to see a world You have created, truly as unique. Help us to see the beauty You have placed within each person here, that You have created us in Your image and likeness. Help us to be able to see that. Help us to have time today to see what's happening around us, to see the world in which we live and help us to be even more committed to doing what we can to help the world reflect the beauty that You have made. Lord, open our ears and help us to hear the people around us. Help us to hear the cries of the poor and the oppressed, people who oftentimes are not heard by anyone but You. Help us to hear the person right next to us. Help us to hear whoever is seeking and truly have a heart that is open to what is being said. Father, give us also hands and feet that are swift to do good. We think of doing big and important things, Lord, sometimes it's the little kindnesses, those little acts of thoughtfulness and gentleness, can really change the world in which we live. Father, give us hearts that are the like the hearts that the prophet Ezekiel saw, hearts that are not stony and hard, but hearts that are tender and hearts of flesh, hearts that have Your spirit dwelling within them, hearts that are tender and can be touched. Lord, we can be so involved in the world that we become callused and afraid not to be that way, to be tender and open. Lord, make us instruments of Your peace. May the instrument of this body that is played today, play beautiful music, music of righteousness, justice and peace in this community. Be with each person here, fill them with Your presence, give them Your hope, help them to know that You are with them, encourage them this day, encourage us all, we pray in Your name, Amen.
