November 23, 1999
Be it remembered that Commissioners Court of Denton County, Texas, met on this the 23rd day of November, 1999, with Commissioner Jeff Krueger presiding. Commissioners Sandy Jacobs, Scott Armey and Jim Carter were present along with Deputy Clerk Kathleen Bransford when the following proceedings were had, to wit:
Court opened with an invocation by Pastor Edward Fackler, of the Mayflower Congregational Church in Flower Mound, followed by the Pledges of Allegiance to the American Flag and the Texas Flag led by Carmen Rivera-Worley, Assistant District Attorney, Civil Division.
Pastor Fackler: Let us lift our hearts and minds in prayer. Almighty and everlasting God, we pause at the beginning of our work this day to give You praise and to invite Your presence in all that we do. We thank You for this universe, for its vastness and its riches and although we recognize the greatness of it, we also appreciate the particularness of this, our County, the place where we make our home. Be with us here this morning and in every aspect of our work. Guide those who are elected by the people to do the public will in a manner which will honor Your creation. Inspire in each of us a desire for excellence and sense of personal calling. Awaken in us the critical needs of men, women and children, especially here in Denton County. May the example of the pilgrim mothers and fathers who journeyed to this fair land in 1620 aboard the Mayflower, sacrificing much in their striving for religious freedom, and their spirit be our example of persistence in the face of overwhelming odds, of what it may sometimes take to achieve righteousness for the benefit of untold numbers of people who are to follow. We thank You for all of the blessings that You have bestowed upon us and pray for Your continued guidance, that we may so please You and may in our final days return in the peace to the greatest source which nourishes us, that our spirits may round out the circle of a perfect life in You. We ask this in Your great name. Amen.
